Choose the journey
The sheet the composer's ADDING TO row opens. The row itself was ruled on
create-step.html; the sheet behind it never was, so the app kept a pre-revamp screen:
a centered page title, a raw-tangerine New Journey label, a dashed tile in the list, and
rows that say nothing but a step count. This board replaces it.
01 The sheet
Sheet grammar, not page grammar: grabber, left-aligned Archivo w800 title, runs to the bottom edge. The title finishes the row's sentence rather than naming an object ("ADDING TO" → Add this step to), so nothing has to be re-read.
What each row now answers
You pick a journey to answer one question: where does this step land? A step count answers the wrong one. The row carries the state and the step you are about to write.
- 44px thumbnail, radius 13, hairline ring. The shipped 76px tile made a five-journey list into a scroll.
- Serif italic title, because a journey title is serif italic everywhere else in the app.
- State chip + "step N next". "6 steps" is arithmetic; "step 7 next" is the thing you are about to do, and it matches the row you came from.
- Ink check on the current target. Selection is ink, never an accent: accents are earned by first/live/final, and this is neither.
- Two groups. On going is what you almost always want. Finished is one label away, never hidden, and never mixed in.
02 The new-journey door
A row, in sheet-row grammar, on --paper2 so it reads as a different kind
of act. The shipped dashed square with raw-tangerine New Journey broke two rules at once.
Two rules, one row
- Accents never carry text. Raw tangerine on white fails WCAG as text. Nothing on this row needs an accent at all: creating a journey is an ordinary act, and the marigold that marks a first step is earned by the step, not promised by a button.
- Dashed squares are the camera tile's idiom in the media picker, where the dashes say "nothing here yet". In a list of real journeys the same square reads as an empty slot rather than a door.
- The caption is the whole mechanic: a new journey's first step is this one. The shipped label made you find that out by doing it.
Placement. Top, above the list and above the first group label. It is a different kind of act from choosing, and a door you only need when nothing in the list fits is a door you must not have to scroll for.
03 Finished journeys, and the sentence that follows you out
Per journeys_overview.md: a regular step on an Achievement or
Closed journey reopens it, and on an Achievement it also clears the finale marker.
Recognition already earned is permanent and is never touched.
Stated twice, confirmed never
The consequence appears in the row you are choosing and in the composer row you return to, where the Post button is. Two quiet statements, at both moments a person could change their mind.
- No confirm sheet. Publish speed is doctrine: the act is being present, not operating an editor. A modal between "I chose" and "I post" buys nothing that the line above the Post button does not already buy.
- Ink, not danger. Continuing a journey you finished is a legitimate thing to
want;
--dangeris destructive-only. The line states, it does not warn. - Never hidden from the list. Reopening by posting is the only way to continue a finished journey, so removing those rows would remove the feature.
- Marking a new Achievement is untouched — the final-step toggle already lives in the composer's mark card and carries its own caption.
04 What the shipped sheet did
Kept, cut, and added, against the version in the app today.
Open questions for review
- No search field. A person has a handful of journeys, and a sheet earns its rows. Revisit when a real account passes roughly a dozen and scrolling is the complaint.
- Sort inside a group is most recently stepped first, matching the composer's own default target.
- Thumbnail source is the journey's latest step media, as on the profile. A journey whose only step is unpublished shows the paper2 square with its ring.
05 Bright lines
Hold these
- Sheet grammar, not page grammar. Grabber, left-aligned Archivo w800 title, bottom edge. No centered titles, no X where a grabber belongs.
- Selection is ink. The check on the current journey is never tangerine, marigold or rose. Accents are earned by first, live and final.
- A row answers "where does this step land?" State and next step number. Never a bare count, never a date the person has to do arithmetic on.
- Finished journeys stay in the list and say what posting does. Stating it in the row and again above the Post button, in ink, is the whole treatment. No confirm sheet, no danger red, no hiding.
- The new-journey door is a row with the mechanic in its caption, on paper2, at the top.
A picker owes you two things: where you are, and what changes if you move.
