Ultimate · step-with withdrawal spec

Taking a step-with back

A heart is a toggle everywhere in Stepo, and on almost every step it can be pressed twice with nothing lost. On one kind of step it cannot: the one where that heart is the only thing holding your step-with. Press it there and your name leaves While it was live, the step drops out of your coverage on that journey, and a Companion membership can fade in the same breath, silently, by design. A supporter lost one that way by mis-tapping. This board is the ask that catches it.

The sheet fires on the condition, never on the act: only when this tap would end the step-with. In the window or long past it, an accident is an accident.

01 While it is live

The step is still inside its 24 hours. Withdrawing here is recoverable, so the sheet says so and offers the way back in the same breath. It still asks, because the coverage drop and the fade land the moment the tap does, and nothing announces them.

Take your heart back?
It is the only thing keeping your name among the people who stepped with this. You can step with it again while it is live.

Recoverable is not the same as harmless

Withdrawing inside the window pulls the step out of both sides of the coverage ratio, and the membership engine re-runs on the spot. If that crosses the hold line the badge fades with no push and no label, exactly as a badge that faded through months of absence would. The person who meant to scroll past never finds out.

Worse on a first step: coverage recomputes who is a starter from that same set, so one mis-tap can move somebody from the starter lines to the stranger lines in a single frame.

  • The live ring and the hours left are what make the promise concrete. No countdown, no meter.
  • Nothing moves until the answer. The heart stays filled behind the scrim; no optimistic un-heart.
  • Dismissing by swipe or scrim is Keep it. The quiet way out never destroys anything.

02 After it ended

The 24 hours are over. A step-with is written at the moment of the act and judged against the window then, so a heart pressed again tomorrow is a late heart forever. Same sheet, one sentence different, and that sentence is the whole difference.

Take your heart back?
It is the only thing keeping your name among the people who stepped with this. Its 24 hours are over, so this one cannot be put back.

One sentence carries the whole stake

The consequence line is bolder here because it is the only thing separating this tap from the harmless one. No second design, no second sheet: the same anatomy, the same two buttons, one clause swapped. A person who sees both over a month learns the difference between them rather than learning to dismiss a sheet.

No ring, no hours left. The window is over, and the sheet looks it.
  • The context caption dates the close in plain words, never as a timestamp.
  • Nothing about Companion appears here. Recognition never shows a meter, and a sheet that predicted the fade would hand people a number to play.
  • Withdrawing a heart on a first or final step also ends a Starter or Celebrator, since both read from the same step-with. The sheet is what makes that deliberate.

03 The comment door

A top-level comment holds a step-with the same way a heart does, so deleting one can end it. That door already has a confirm, and it earns one added sentence rather than a second sheet stacked on top of it.

Delete this comment?
It goes right away, for everyone. It is also the only thing keeping your name among the people who stepped with this step, and its 24 hours are over.

The delete grammar stays, because delete was chosen

Here the person opened a tray and pressed Delete. The confirm honors that: the styled danger primary carries the real verb and Keep it is the quiet way out, per the step-sheet ruling. The step-with sentence rides along only when it is true, and drops its second clause while the step is still live.

  • The added sentence appears only when this comment is the last thing holding the step-with.
  • No context row: a chosen act on a comment already sits in the comment's own screen.
  • Replies never ask. A reply was never a step-with, so its delete is unchanged.

04 When it stays silent

The sheet is rare on purpose. Every tap below removes something and asks nothing, because none of them ends a step-with. A guard that fires when nothing is at stake teaches the thumb to dismiss it unread, which is how the real one gets missed.

The server owns the answer

Whether a tap ends the step-with is the step-with rule, and the step-with rule lives on the server. The client is told, never left to guess: one boolean per removable act, named for its consequence. The app today guesses, checks only for a share, and would warn a person who also commented for no reason at all.

  • A share cannot be withdrawn in the app, so it never reaches this ask. It stays the one act that was always permanent.
  • The rarity is the guard. Six taps, one sheet.

05 Why keeping is the primary

The step-sheet ruling says a destructive confirm must put the real verb on the styled primary, never hide it beside a big Cancel. This sheet inverts that, and the distinction is worth stating plainly, because it is the only place in Stepo where it holds.

This sheet

The tap that raised this sheet may have been a mistake. The emphasis belongs on the outcome the person most likely wants.

Rejected here

Right for Delete step, wrong here. It honors a request nobody made, and dresses a mis-tap as an intention.

The rule, stated once: a confirm honors an act you chose, so the chosen verb leads. This sheet catches an act you may not have chosen, so keeping leads. Delete step, delete journey and delete comment stay exactly as they are.

06 Bright lines

What keeps this one sheet from becoming a habit the thumb learns to swat.

A record of who was there is not something a thumb should be able to edit by accident.

Scope & status. Release 1.0.8. Raised by a supporter who mis-tapped an un-heart and lost the step-with behind it. The two doors are the step heart and the top-level comment delete; the share has no withdrawal in the app and needs none here. The guest book sections this protects are boarded on step-people.html; the law the coverage feeds is recognition_overview.md; the confirm grammar this departs from is step-sheet.html panel 03. Danger ink --danger #B3322E appears on exactly two elements: the quiet Take it back and the comment door's primary.
